Image 1 (Net Activism)

Net activism as known as online activism. The definition of Net Activism is the use of electronic communication technologies such as social media, especially  Twitter, Facebook,  YouTube, e-mail, and podcast for various forms of action to enable faster communication by citizen movements and the delivery of local information to reach a large audience. With the use of social media, you can change your profile picture to raise awareness, share videos and articles and keep in touch with charities by liking their pages. Besides that, if whoever going to organize some protest activity, you may create a page to show information of it to invite people join it. This is so call Net Activism.

Tactical Media Hacktivism is the fusion of hacking and activism something like politics and technology. More specifically, hacktivism is described as hacking for a political cause. The definition of hacker is “a person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities” and one who is capable of “creatively overcoming to access other person details and information. In addition, It is a use of individual person to collective skills to hack clever solutions to complex problems using computer and Internet technology.

Image 3 (Cultural hacking)

Culture Hack is a digital development programm for arts and culture that enables the creation of innovative digital prototypes and creates new working relationships across the arts, technology and the creative industries.

Culture Hacking is an art. It’s also an empirical process – you have to make a change, see what works, make more changes and so on. Culture hackers each have their own aesthetic and also share techniques, practices, and “culture software”.

Culture hackers see culture as something they can modify and improve on. Culture hackers operate at different scales, sometimes simultaneously on the level of internal experience of an individual, on the level of individual behavior. between two individuals, or between a team of three or more. Culture hackers operate on teams inside companies and outside them, on the level of one team or many teams, and even at the level of whole societies or even groups of societies. It is okay to saying that culture hackers like test on new things, they are okay with being uncomfortable in a new strange culture that they are trying out for first time. Everything have the first time, just see whether you want to take the first step.

Image 4 (Intellectual Properties)

Intellectual Properties is the creations done by artist, musician and designers such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.  It is intended largely to encourage the development of art, science, and information by granting certain property rights to all artists, which include inventors in the arts and the sciences. These rights allow artists to protect themselves from infringement, or the unauthorized use and misuse of their creations. They deserve the right to sue people who had use their artwork or creation without any permission granted.

Virtual Reality (VR) is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to the user in such a way that want the user suspends believe and accepts it as a real environment. On a computer, virtual reality is primarily experienced through two of the five senses: sight and sound. The user can through virtual reality interactive with the computer, the activity is actually manipulating keys or the mouse so that you can control or adjust in the image move in some direction. Virtual Reality experience is like 3D images that appear from the perspective of the user, the ability is to track a user’s motions, particularly his/her head and eyes movements, and correspondingly adjust the images on the user’s display to reflect the change in perspective. There are few types of Virtual Reality such as Virtual Reality Games, Virtual Reality Gear and so-on.

Image 4 (Virtual Reality Gaming)

Virtual Reality Gaming is where a person can experience being in a 3D environment and interact with that environment during a game. There are small sensor censors which are attached to a data glove, suit or even the body and record movements made by that person in a 3D space. The controller is not only a commercially available device with some tracking capabilities; it’s also affordable and appeals to people who don’t normally play video games.

Those movements will be interpreted by a computer  and give a variety of responses within that space. For example, you wear a data glove which has sensors attached to it. If you wear it in a driving game, the sensors will follow your hands moves whenever you turn to anywhere just like turn the steering wheel, when turning the steering wheel in a particular direction. These movements will transfer back to a computer which then analyses the data and to transform your actions into the appropriate responses on the screen. The video game industry in particular has contributed advancements in graphics and sound capabilities that engineers can incorporate into virtual reality systems’ designs to improve the interaction.

So now I talk about one of the virtual reality gaming’s product, which is Oculus Rift. Oculus is producing (SDK) to assist developers integrate oculus rift with their games, the Rift uses various techniques to improve ‘immersion’ and one of the elementary methods is via ‘head tracking’. When you have a device that calculates the movement of your head and imitates that to produce an output, you deal with artificial intelligence at a different level. The features of the head-tracking device is that you no longer need to use electronic device such as ‘mouse’ or ‘joystick’ manually in response to the movement of the head.

Topic 2: Body and Identity, The Development of Telepresence and Telerobotics

For this topic I’m going to explore about Telepresence and Telerobotics. First of all, what is Telepresence? Telepresence refers to a set of technologies which allow a person to feel as if they were present, to give the appearance of being present. It is giving you a visual effect in the technology tool, it must be generate by technology tool such as computer or mobile device. Telepresence requires that the users’ senses be provided with such stimuli as to give the feeling of being in that other location. Additionally, users may be given the ability such as the user’s position, face expression, gesture, movements, actions, voice and so-on to improve the thing you trying to express to affect the remote location.

Telepresence videoconferencing is a two-way, high definition communication and collaboration tool that provides an experience to users like having a conversation in the same room. Telepresence videoconferencing technically apply in business collaboration, it allows users to connect two or more locations and offers employees, customers, and business partners a level of flexibility and quality communication that significantly increases business productivity while streamlining work processes. Not only that, if you want to have a long distance meeting with customers or business partners, you may use telepresence videoconferencing. The telepresence technology is a combination of four elements which is high-quality audio and video, simplicity, high-reliability, and environmental excellence.

Telepresence is using technology to get a sense of shared presence or space among geographically separated members of a group. There are two types of spaces which is person space and task space. Person task is sence of co-presence which is facial expression and body language that you could make in telepresence videoconferencing. On the other hand, Task space is co-presence in domain of task being undertaken. The importance of person space are Inability to establish eye contact, use portrait rather than landscape orientation, when using multiple sites use video surrogates and also scale can be important. About task space, usually are using the same video channel to share the copy of documents.

Telerobotics is the area of robotics that is concerned with the control of robots from a distance. It is qutie similar in meaning to the phrase “remote control” but is usually encountered in research, academic and technical environments. Telerobotic also called teleoperation, teleoperation is standard term in use both in research and technical communities and is by the distance they had set in earlier, but most standard term for referring to operation at a distance. In this century, most of medical centre had started to use telerobotics in medical application. However, any decision before making have to done by human first while the robot is responsible for their mechanical implementation. Using teleoperation, most of the surgeries can be performed by using minimally invasive surgical techniques, in which there is only small incision site for instrument entry. As a result, this causes less pain to the patients and there will be less tissue trauma, thus reducing hospitalization time and enhancing recovery. For example, in many operations such as eye surgery, small precise movements are needed. As a result, the telerobotics can minimize the risk of operation, the operation hand movements on the controls are scaled down so that very fine instrument movements can be performed.

Topic 1: Mapping and database visualization, database aesthetics, Organic Information Design

Mapping and database visualization

Visualization is a formation of mental visual images, it can be presented act or process of interpreting in visual terms or of putting into visible form. As we can simplify it visualization is a form that use of computer-supported, interactive, visual representations of data to increase the cognition.

The definition of visualization is a gather science, statistics, and graphics. It has only been recognized as its own entity since the 1985-1990s. It is all begin with seminal work is in line with that of a young field. But its discover that they are good in background drawn from years of statistics and graphic design.

Mapping

The definition of mapping is making a map, or a matching process where the points of one set are matched against the points of another set, if to define it can be say  mapping is the act or process of making a map.

Information Visualization

The field or information visualization has appeared “from research in human-computer, computer science, graphics, visual design, psychology, and business methods. Human eye’s can through visual to allow users to see, explore, and understand large amounts of information at once. Thurs, it is take advantage on visual representations and interaction techniques.

Organic Information Visualization is considered a space of highly complex systems for which we lack deep understanding because few techniques exist for visualization of data whose structure and content are continually changing. To prevent make it more complicated, the resulting systems employ simulated organic properties in an interactive, visually refined environment to glean qualitative facts from large bodies of quantitative data generated by dynamic information sources.

Organic Information Design is information design based on organic systems.

Data visualization

Data visualization as story-telling, there is a process call data-driven journalism in a similar manner, the data must be found which may require specialized skills like MySQL or Python, then find out for which understanding of jargon and statistics is necessary, and finally visualized and mashed with the aid of open source tools. Maps are probably the biggest subsection of visualization types. There are many variations on map types, each with its own strengths. These variations can be combined with each other, and many can be improve even further to produce new types of maps. There are many types of maps such as Choropleth, Cartograms, Proportional Symbol, Pinpont, Connection, Subway, Isopleth, Stream plots and Prism.

“Choropleth” maps are one of the most frequently used maps in infographic style visualizations. As the name suggests, color is the important part to these maps. A color scale is assigned to numerical data, and the value for each region is used to color the region.

Subway maps are another version of connection maps. The connection is most important in these maps, although the precise station location is not. Furthermore, there are a lot of information on the subway map to stated which station that you need to stop and to take which which train and bus to next destination. Subway and transit maps are always manually created by designers who simplify the routes down to lines at a few different angles.

From Diskette to Thumb Drive

For the old media that I had deep impression is Diskette, if you were born in between 1990-2000. You might probably know what is diskette, but now is very rare to saw diskette. The use of a diskette is to save your files and documents, the user also can use diskette to work their stuff or preview. The capacity of a diskette is actually very small, maximum of the storage space can only go to 4MB, so imagine you have a lot of files need to be save, you needed many diskette to help you to store it.it-floppy-35_Clipart_Free

As the new media that replaced diskette is Thumb drive, in this generation I think all of us are familiar with thumb drive. The use of thumb drive is very wide, it can save large capacity of data and documents. It able to play music and videos everywhere that have media player, it’s make much easier and convenient for our life. audio-iconphotoThumb drive also can be customize, a lot of nice unique design thumb drive out there.The-Avengers-USB-Flash-Drives-2-544x233 Thurs, new media made our life more interesting and made our life easier. On the hand, we can share our data and document to our friends, sharing is caring. Everything is possible to have in 1 device. One more most important thing to bring up, old media should not be forgot.
